Playing Multiple Videos on a Single Screen with AV-Sync

Configure your Podcatcher Pro to synchronize with different videos playing on the same screen

Quick Reference

Multiple Video Setup:

  1. Process each video with unique Video Codes (A101, A102, etc.)
  2. Create separate audio stops for each video in the Guide-ID platform
  3. Link the same Beacon Lite or Beacon Pro to all related stops
  4. Podcatcher Pro automatically detects and syncs with the currently playing video

Why Use Multiple Videos on One Screen

The Guide-ID AV-Sync system allows you to play different videos on a single screen while maintaining perfect audio synchronization on your Podcatcher Pro's. This feature delivers three specific benefits:

  1. Schedule different content throughout the day - Show a family-friendly video in the morning and switch to in-depth content in the afternoon using the same equipment
  2. Enable visitor selection - Allow visitors to choose between videos via touchscreen without needing to reconfigure your AV-Sync setup
  3. Reduce hardware costs - Use a single screen and Brainbox to deliver multiple video experiences instead of installing separate stations

Prerequisites

Before setting up multiple videos, ensure you have:

  • Guide-ID AV-Sync Tool
  • Multiple video files prepared for processing
  • Single media player connected to display
  • Guide-ID Brainbox
  • At least one Beacon Lite

Step 1: Preparing Your Video Files

  1. Open the Guide-ID AV-Sync Tool
  2. Process each video individually:
    • Assign a unique Video Code to each file (A101, A102, etc.)
    • Process each video to generate the corresponding "_video" and "_audio" files
    • for detailed info see AV-sync

Tip: Create a consistent Video Code naming system (A101, A102, A103) to keep your content organized, especially for exhibitions with numerous videos.

Step 2: Platform Configuration

  1. Log into the Guide-ID platform
  2. Create separate AV-Sync stops for each video:
    • Create a new stop for each video
    • Upload each "_audio" file to its corresponding stop
    • Enter the exact Video Code you assigned in the AV-Sync Tool
  3. Link to a single Beacon:
    • Add the same Beacon Lite code to all related stops
    • This allows the Beacon to trigger all potential audio tracks

Step 3: Testing Your Setup

  1. Load all processed videos onto your media player
  2. Play one of the videos on your display
  3. Scan the Beacon with a Podcatcher Pro
  4. Verify the Podcatcher automatically selects and plays the correct audio
  5. Repeat test with each video in your sequence

Caution: Always test the complete visitor experience before exhibition opening. Verify that Podcatcher Pro devices correctly identify which video is playing.

Tip from Science Museums: Creating age-appropriate versions of the same exhibit (simplified for children, detailed for adults) increases engagement across all visitor demographics.

Technical Workflow

When a visitor scans the Beacon with their Podcatcher Pro:

  1. The Podcatcher "listens" for AV-Sync timecodes from all potential videos
  2. It automatically identifies which video is currently playing
  3. It selects and plays the corresponding audio track
  4. Synchronization is maintained throughout playback

Troubleshooting

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Podcatcher plays wrong audio Video codes mismatch Verify platform Video Codes match processed files
No audio plays Beacon not linked to all stops Check beacon assignments in platform

Success Indicators

Your multiple video setup is working correctly when:

  • Podcatcher Pro automatically identifies the correct audio for each video
  • Synchronization remains perfect regardless of which video plays
  • Visitors can trigger the correct audio by scanning a single Beacon
