Shared Experience

Overview

Enhance group visits with the Shared Listening Experience! This feature allows visitors to listen to the same audio tour points together, in perfect sync. Whether exploring a museum, historic site, or gallery, Shared Listening fosters deeper connections and shared moments. Visitors can engage in real-time discussions, experience stories collectively, and still have the flexibility to explore individually.

How It works

Visitors can create a small group if they want to listen to the same audio at the same team. To form a group one person of the group scans a Beacon assigned in the platform as a Shared Listening beacon. Audio will start and explain how the group will function.
The person who scans the beacon is the Group Leader. By holding the Podcatchers close they will form a small group. The group leader can now scan a beacon and the audio will start once on all Podcatcher in the group.

Assigning a Beacon

  1. Log in to the Guide ID Platform.

  2. Navigate to the Hardware page.

  3. Select the Shared Listening tab.

  4. Click on Add new Shared Listening Beacon.

  5. Follow the three-step wizard to complete the setup.

Once assigned, the Beacon enables visitors to initiate a shared listening experience.

Forming a Group

  1. Scan the Beacon – One visitor scans the Beacon with their Podcatcher, becoming the Group Leader.

  2. Identify the group – The LED ring on the Group Leader's Podcatcher will change to a unique color, signifying the group.

  3. Join the group – Other visitors can join by simply bumping their Podcatcher with the Group Leader's Podcatcher.

  4. Sync confirmation – The LED rings on all Podcatchers in the group will match, confirming synchronization.

Taking the tour together

  • Starting stories – The Group Leader scans a Beacon, and the story automatically plays on all group members' Podcatchers.

  • Independent listening – Group members can scan Beacons on their own to hear stories individually. However, if the Group Leader starts a new story, it will immediately play for everyone in the group.

Temporarily leaving the group

Each member in the group can leave the group and experience the museum on their own. They can simply return to the group by pressing the up button.

  • For individual listening – Hold the down button for two seconds.

    • If the The Group Leader do so, he/she will only start audio on their own device.

    • A group member who temporarily leaves can listen independently without interruption from the Group Leader.

  • Rejoining the Group – Press the up button briefly.

    • The Group Leader will resume broadcasting stories to all members.

    • Group members will rejoin the synchronized experience.

This flexibility allows visitors to enjoy the tour at their own pace while staying connected.

Joining a group Later

  • If someone wants to join mid-tour, the Group Leader presses the up button to become "connectable."

  • Once connected, the new member’s Podcatcher will sync with the group’s LED color and audio.

  • This feature ensures that groups form intentionally and prevents accidental connections with strangers.
