Pronounce Mode

2 min read Updated Jun 2026 3 steps

Pronounce mode makes a Podcatcher Pro read serial numbers and codes aloud through the earphone, so you can identify a device or a nearby beacon without a visible label. It is a service and diagnostics tool — useful for finding a specific Podcatcher Pro in a large fleet, checking which beacon hangs behind a panel, or confirming a code the device received.

Pronounce mode is triggered by the undocking action, so start with the Podcatcher Pro in the Basecamp.

  1. With the Podcatcher Pro docked in the Basecamp, hold the left and center buttons together.
  2. Keep both buttons held while you lift the Podcatcher Pro out of the Basecamp.
  3. The LED ring turns magenta to confirm Pronounce mode is active.

In Pronounce mode the Podcatcher Pro speaks numbers digit by digit — for example, serial 12345 is read as “1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5”:

NumberHow to hear it
Basecamp serialSpoken automatically on activation — the Basecamp the device was undocked from
Own Podcatcher Pro serialPress the center button, then hold it
Beacon Lite serialHold the Podcatcher Pro close to the Beacon Lite
Identifier serialHold the Podcatcher Pro close to the Identifier
Beacon Pro serialBring the Podcatcher Pro within 50 cm; to hear it again, first move beyond 100 cm, then return
AV-Sync video codeHold the Podcatcher Pro close to the Brainbox
Group / Buddy join codeHold the Podcatcher Pro close to another Podcatcher Pro that is hosting a group or buddy tour

The 50 cm / 100 cm range on the Beacon Pro stops several beacons from being read at once.

Press the left, center, or right button to play its own test tone. This lets you confirm the earphone output and that each button responds.
