Buttons and clip flow
A Podcatcher Classic has three buttons. While a clip plays they control volume and pause. When a clip offers a choice, the same buttons choose an option. This page explains how the buttons line up with the connections in the clip flow. How to build a clip flow is the same for every site — see Editing clips and Adding layers to a tour.
The buttons
Section titled “The buttons”| Button | During a regular clip | When the clip offers options |
|---|---|---|
| Left | Volume down | Option A |
| Middle | Pause / play | Option B |
| Right | Volume up | Option C |
Connections on a Classic site
Section titled “Connections on a Classic site”In the clip flow, the connection between two clips decides when the next clip plays. On a Podcatcher Classic site, the Platform offers these connections:
| Connection in the Platform | Button on the Podcatcher Classic |
|---|---|
| Auto play | None — the next clip plays when the current one ends |
| Button A | Left |
| Button B | Middle |
| Button C | Right |
So a quiz question with three answers uses Button A, Button B and Button C, one per answer clip. In the audio, tell visitors which button to press, for example “Press the left button for…”.
Keep volume and pause usable
Section titled “Keep volume and pause usable”While a clip with button options is playing, the buttons choose options instead of changing the volume or pausing. Put the explanation in a separate clip before the question:
- An introduction clip with the content.
- Connected with Auto play to a short question clip that names the options.
- The question clip connects with Button A, Button B and Button C to the answer clips.
Visitors can then still adjust the volume and pause during the introduction. The same structure works for surveys: keep the question and the answer options in separate clips, and give each clip a descriptive title so you can recognize it in Insights.
Whether the buttons respond as options right away when a Stop starts, or only after a short delay, is set under Site settings → Podcatcher V3 — see Podcatcher V3 settings and autostart.
What does not work on Podcatcher Classic
Section titled “What does not work on Podcatcher Classic”| Option | On a Classic site |
|---|---|
| Down button | Not offered. The device has no fourth button. |
| Randomize | Not offered. |
| Enable scores and Display Score on LED Ring | Not shown in the clip settings. |
| Interactive Clip Id (optional) | Not shown in the clip settings. |
The other clip settings, such as Allow the visitor to replay the previous audio clip and Automatically replay this clip when it is finished, are available on Classic sites too. With a replay connection you choose Auto play or one of the three button options.
See the answers
Section titled “See the answers”The choices visitors make with the buttons appear in Insights, so you can read quiz and survey results. In the Platform, go to Insights → Choices.
