Battery safety for Podcatcher Classic

2 min readUpdated Nov 2026

The same principles apply to Podcatcher Classic as to Podcatcher Pro — see Battery and charging safety for the risk, a swollen battery and fire detection. For Podcatcher Classic, these points differ:

  • Battery: lithium-polymer cell of 3.7 V and 700 mAh, which is 2.59 Wh, with a protection circuit against overcharging, deep discharge, overcurrent and short circuit.
  • Charging: the Dockingstations run on 5 V and are fed by the Syncbox; mains voltage goes no further than the enclosed power supply in the Syncbox. Charging is limited to about 350 mA and stops at 4.2 V. A full charge from empty takes about six hours, so charging is normally finished during the evening.
  • Tested: according to the manufacturer’s specification, overcharging, deep discharge, short circuit and 30 minutes at 130 °C give no smoke and no fire.
  • Charging room: keep it between 10 and 30 °C, not continuously in direct sunlight, without covering or stacking the devices, and make sure the charging unit can ventilate.
  • Overnight: leave the Syncbox switched on. It fetches new content every evening, and the Podcatcher Classic writes new content slowly, so after a change the night hours, when all devices are in their Dockingstations, are the most productive time to update them.
  • Storage: devices that are out of use for a longer time are best stored with 30 to 50 percent charge and recharged every three months.
