Podcatcher V3 settings and autostart

5 min readUpdated Nov 20265 steps

The settings for your Podcatcher Classic devices are set once for the whole site. In the Platform, go to Site settings → Podcatcher V3. The page has four sections: Podcatcher volume, Alarm, Podcatcher settings and Autostart. Click Save when you are done.

Each volume setting is a slider. Left is quieter, right is louder.

SettingWhat it does
Minimum volumeThe lowest volume a visitor can set with the volume-down button.
Maximum volumeThe highest volume a visitor can set with the volume-up button.
Initial volumeThe volume of a device when it is taken out of its Dockingstation.

A Podcatcher Classic can sound a warning signal when it seems to leave your site. See Warning IDentifier for how the signal works.

SettingWhat it does
Podcatcher idle time before alarm starts (minutes)The device sounds the signal when it is in a tour but has not played audio for this long. Set it to 0 to turn this off. See Idle-time alarm.
Duration of the alarm (seconds)How long the signal lasts. It also stops when the device is put back in a Dockingstation or receives an IDentifier code.

Both sliders run from 0 to 120, with marks every 20.

SettingWhat it does
Generate audible feedback when a button is pressedThe device clicks when a visitor presses a button.
After triggering, A/B/C buttons are immediately availableWhen on, visitors can choose an option with the buttons as soon as a Stop starts. When off, the buttons respond as options only after a short delay.

For what the buttons do, see Buttons and clip flow.

With autostart, a Podcatcher Classic starts a tour in one language as soon as it is taken out of the Dockingstation. The visitor does not need to point it at a start IDentifier first.

  1. Go to Site settings → Podcatcher V3.
  2. Under Autostart, choose the tour in the dropdown.
  3. Under Language, choose the language. This field appears once you have chosen a tour.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Publish the tour you chose, so the autostart is written onto the devices. See Publishing a tour.

The devices pick up the autostart at their next sync — see Synchronizing Podcatcher Classic.

To change the autostart, choose another tour or language and save. Then publish the new autostart tour, and also publish the tour that had the autostart before.

The old Podcatcher Portal set up an automatic start as a trigger on the tour’s first Stop. The current Platform has no such option on a Stop: use the Autostart section described above.

Saving the volume, alarm and button settings publishes them for your site automatically. The devices pick them up at their next sync. Autostart is the exception: it also needs the publish described above.
