Podcatcher Classic LEDs
The Podcatcher Classic has three status lights: yellow (left), green (middle) and red (right). Together they show whether a device is ready to hand out, needs to be synchronized or charged, or has a problem. This page explains the lights, how to prevent error states and how to use Test Mode.
What the lights mean
Section titled “What the lights mean”| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green (middle) blinking or on | The Podcatcher Classic is ready to use | Hand it out |
| Yellow (left) blinking | The device needs to be synchronized | Put it in a Dockingstation and let it synchronize |
| Red (right) blinking or on | Something is wrong; the device cannot be used | Synchronize it. If that does not help, contact the helpdesk |
If the yellow light flashes briefly once every 3 seconds, the battery is not charged enough for a tour. Put the device back in the Dockingstation to charge for 6 hours.
The user manual explains every light pattern in detail. The Podcatcher Classic Troubleshooter walks you through the yellow blinking patterns step by step.
User manual and LED sheets
Section titled “User manual and LED sheets”Print the user manual and keep it at your reception desk, so staff can check a device’s lights and know what to do.

Prevent error states
Section titled “Prevent error states”Devices sent in for repair often turn out to work fine. With the LED sheets you can decide whether a device really needs repair. These habits keep your devices out of an error state:
- Dock every returned device so it can charge again.
- Push the device firmly into the slot when you put it back in the Dockingstation.
- Dock all devices at the end of the day so they charge and sync overnight.
- Always synchronize replacement devices (for missing or repaired ones). They do not hold your content yet.
- Try a different slot. If a device shows an error, synchronize it in another slot to rule out the Dockingstation slot.
- Keep the Sync Device running 24/7, switched on and connected to a wired internet connection.
Test Mode
Section titled “Test Mode”In Test Mode you can check a device’s lights, sound and buttons, and read the code of an IDentifier. This is useful when an IDentifier is already mounted and you no longer know its code.
Start Test Mode
Section titled “Start Test Mode”You can only put a fully synchronized Podcatcher Classic in Test Mode, while it sits in a Dockingstation. A device whose lights are flickering cannot be put in Test Mode.
- Press the left and middle button at the same time and keep them pressed.
- While holding both buttons, take the device out of the Dockingstation.
- All lights turn on (yellow, green and red). The device is now in Test Mode, and you can let go of the buttons.
Check the lights, sound and buttons
Section titled “Check the lights, sound and buttons”Press each button. You hear a tone and the matching light turns off and on again:
| Button | Tone | Light |
|---|---|---|
| Left | Low | Yellow |
| Middle | Medium | Green |
| Right | High | Red |
If every button gives its tone and light, the device and its buttons work correctly.
Read an IDentifier code
Section titled “Read an IDentifier code”Point the device in Test Mode at the IDentifier. When it receives the code, all lights blink a few times. The device then reads the code out loud in the NATO (aviation) alphabet.
The code is 4 or 8 characters long and uses the digits 0–9 and the letters A–F:
| Letter | Spoken as |
|---|---|
| A | Alpha |
| B | Bravo |
| C | Charlie |
| D | Delta |
| E | Echo |
| F | Foxtrot |
Leave Test Mode
Section titled “Leave Test Mode”Put the device back in the Dockingstation. From then on it works normally again.
