IDentifiers for Podcatcher Classic
An IDentifier is a small infrared transmitter that you place next to an object, at the entrance of a room or at the start of a tour. A visitor points the Podcatcher Classic at the IDentifier, the device receives its code and plays the content linked to that code. This page explains the types of IDentifier, their codes and batteries.
Podcatcher Classic only responds to infrared. The visitor has to aim the device at the IDentifier.
Types of IDentifier
Section titled “Types of IDentifier”| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Object IDentifier | The most common type. Starts the content of one Stop. |
| Start IDentifier | An Object IDentifier with a flag on its label. Starts a tour in the language of that flag. |
| AV-Sync IDentifier | Wired to an AV-Sync box and plays audio in sync with a video. Cannot work on its own. |
| Warning IDentifier | Mains-powered transmitter near the exit that makes the Podcatcher Classic sound a warning signal. |
Object IDentifier
Section titled “Object IDentifier”Every IDentifier sends its own unique infrared code. The code is printed on the back of the device and has four pairs of characters, for example EF:FE:1C:AE.
- You can link an Object IDentifier to one Stop per tour, but you can use the same IDentifier in several tours.
- An IDentifier cannot be an Object IDentifier and a Start IDentifier at the same time.
To use one, note the code on the back, add it to a Stop in the Tour Editor on the Platform and place the IDentifier near that Stop. When a visitor points the Podcatcher Classic at it, the Stop plays.
Start IDentifier
Section titled “Start IDentifier”A Start IDentifier uses the same kind of code as an Object IDentifier, but it starts a tour in a specific language. You can link a Start IDentifier’s code to a site only once — otherwise the Podcatcher Classic would not know which tour, or which language, to start.
AV-Sync IDentifier
Section titled “AV-Sync IDentifier”An AV-Sync IDentifier sends its code and the current position in the video. It is connected by cable to an AV-Sync box, which does most of the work. See AV-Sync for Podcatcher Classic.
Warning IDentifier
Section titled “Warning IDentifier”See Warning IDentifier.
IDentifier V3 and V2
Section titled “IDentifier V3 and V2”There are two generations of the battery-powered IDentifier.
